Electrical Services In the Greater Vancouver Area – The 60A, 100A, 125A, 200A and 400A Service

The electrical service is where the power enters your home. Power can be supplied to your home either overhead or underground. In most homes, power will first run through the meter and then into the service electrical panel.  For home owners looking to upgrade their existing electrical service to a larger 200A service, they can expect to have a new Service Mast, Meter Base and Service Panel installed as part of the new service. Common service sizes are the 60A electrical service (installed in many older homes throughout much of Vancouver), the 100A electrical service (this is probably the most common service size), the 125A electrical service (not a very common service size), the 200A electrical service (commonly used on homes with 2 or more dryers or electric ranges), and the 400A electrical service (this is the largest service size for homes and requires special current transformers for hydro metering). For the most part our electricians recommend having a 200A service installed whenever practicable. If you are not sure if your electrical service is adequate for your home, have an Electrician brought in to ensure it has been sized correctly.
